YET ANOTHER MIX OF OLD AND NEW

For Hicksflicks.com, Friday, July 17, 2020

The Megaplex theaters — with strong distancing regulations enforced — and the Redwood Drive-In remain the only working movie venues in the Salt Lake Valley at the moment, as the coronavirus continues to surge.

And a mix of “classic” and recent movies continues to be the order of the day.

There is one new movie this week, the comedy-drama “Never Too Late,” about four Vietnam veterans (led by James Cromwell and Jack Thompson) who escaped together from a POW camp, and now they plot to do the same from the Australian retirement home where they currently live. (Also available on various streaming sites.)

Several films that fans may want to see again have been added to this week’s mix of old and fairly recent — “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” “Good Will Hunting,” “Major League,” “Happy Gilmore,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” Disney’s 2017 live-action remake of its own animated classic, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “It” and “Iron Man.”

And hanging in there are “Field of Dreams,” “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,” “The Goonies,” “Ghostbusters,” “Jurassic Park,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Indiana Jones  and the Temple of Doom,” “Back to the Future,” the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and several more.
