A SLOW WEEK AT THE CINEMAS
For Hicksflicks.com, Friday, Jan. 3, 2019
Michael Apted’s remarkable film series (see “Blog” above) and a horror movie remake are the only two new films in town this weekend. No one seems to want to take on the latest “Star Wars” flick that has been a box-office juggernaut for the past two weeks.
“63 Up” (Not Rated). Filmmaker Michael Apted has managed to once again round up most of the 14 participants in his documentary social experiment that returns to the same group of people from various socio-economic British backgrounds every seven years, and which Apted has been re-visiting since 1964 when they were children of 7 years old. (Exclusively at the Broadway Centre Cinemas.)
“The Grudge” (R). While investigating the case of a young mother who murdered her children in her own home, another single mother, a police detective (Andrea Riseborough), is assigned to the case but soon learns that the house is haunted by a vengeful ghost. This is a reboot of the 2004 remake of the 2002 Japanese horror movie “Ju-On,” and the fourth in the franchise of “Grudge” films.
