Yet another sci-fi thriller with teenagers at its center and a raunchy comedy are the week’s big movies, along with a raunchy cartoon at the local art house.
“The 5th Wave” (PG-13). After aliens attack and enslave the Earth, a teenage girl on her own tries to find and rescue her younger brother. Chloe Grace Moretz stars; Liev Schreiber has a supporting role.
“The Boy” (PG-13). Supernatural horror about an American nanny (Lauren Cohan) in England who is hired to be the caretaker of an elderly couple’s child, which turns out to be a doll that is apparently possessed. Then she learns that the couple’s real son died 20 years earlier under suspicious circumstances.
“Dirty Grandpa” (R). Raunchy comedy about a recent widower (Robert De Niro) who coerces his grandson (Zac Efron) into taking a road trip, with sexual excursions on the side. Julianne Hough and Dermot Mulroney co-star.
“Anomalisa” (R) Raunchy animated film from eccentric filmmaker Charlie Kaufman (“Being John Malkovich,” “Adaptation”) about a lonely disconnected middle-aged man who meets his dream woman on a business trip. David Thewlis, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Tom Noonan provide voices. (Exclusively at the Broadway Centre Cinemas.)
