George Clooney and Julia Roberts lead new movies his week with their fourth big-screen collaboration.
“Money Monster” (R). Clooney is the flamboyant host of a live financial TV show that is hijacked at gunpoint by a disgruntled investor (Jack O’Connell, of “Unbroken”) who’s lost everything and claims to be wearing a bomb. Roberts co-stars as Clooney’s producer.
“The Man Who Knew Infinity” (PG-13). Dev Patel (“Slumdog Millionaire,” the “Exotic Marigold Hotel” movies) plays a real-life math genius that grew up poor in India and managed to get into Cambridge University in England during World War I. Jeremy Irons co-stars, with Toby Jones, Jeremy Northam and Stephen Fry.
“The Darkness” (PG-13). Kevin Bacon stars in this supernatural horror yarn, an allegedly true story about a family that visits the Grand Canyon and inadvertently brings back a force that feeds on their fears and threatens to take over their lives. Co-stars include Radha Mitchell, Ming-Na Wen and Paul Reiser.
“Dough” (Not Rated). An aging Jewish baker in England finds his business suffering until his Muslim apprentice drops cannabis in a recipe, which sends sales through the roof. Jonathan Pryce and Pauline Collins star. (Exclusively at the Broadway Centre Cinemas.)
“Too Late” (Not Rated). A world-weary Los Angeles detective (John Hawkes) searches for a missing stripper and then her killer in this modern-day film noir. Independent production shot on 35mm film, which is most unusual in this digital day and age. Co-stars include Robert Forster, Jeff Fahey and Joanna Cassidy. (Exclusively at the Tower Theater.)
