If you've never seen "Raiders of the Lost Ark" on the big screen you haven't really seen it. Of course, last year for a week you could see it on the really, really big screen when it was rejiggered by director Steven Spielberg for a brief IMAX release before it debuted on Blu-ray. But if you missed that, it's back for three showings at several local Cinemark theaters and those screens are big enough to enhance the experience.

Seeing Harrison Ford don his hat as Indiana Jones for the first time was an amazing movie experience back in 1981 when "Raiders" debuted on the old Villa Theater's curved screen. The audience audibly ooooh'd and awwww'd when the curtains opened (yes, theaters still had curtains in those days), the Paramount logo appeared and then faded into a South American mountain as we saw Indy begin his first adventure.

Even if you've already seen "Raiders" and no surprises are in store, there's a certain magic that comes from concentrating on the theater experience for a beloved film loaded front to back with great moments. And "Raiders" certainly offers that.

Next in the series are "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" and "Schindler's List." Here is the website, which includes a brief trailer of this series and will help you find theaters in your area.
