The Christmas DVDs began rolling in for review in late September. That's right, the ninth month of the year for a holiday celebrated in the 12th month of the year.

Every year they start coming earlier. It won't be long before they'll be here in early December — for Christmas the next year.

And those that have crossed my desk so far are predominantly straight-to-DVD animated films and episodes of animated TV shows. In other words, they're all for kids.

The next biggest category is made-for-TV movies, primarily Lifetime Network and Hallmark Channel films that are fairly recent, all of a familiar formula and starring lower-tier out-of-work TV stars or actors you've never heard of. At least I haven't.

Even the titles are generic: "The Road to Christmas." "Home By Christmas." "Christmas Adventure." The Great Holiday Giving." "A Christmas Wish." "His & Her Christmas," "Hitched for the Holidays." "A Christmas Wedding." "A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride," "Will You Merry Me?"

I am not making these up.

So Merry Thanksgiving to all and to all a good turkey.

If a "good turkey" is not an oxymoron.
