Yet another “Godzilla” movie hits theater screens this weekend, No. 35! I was six when the first “Godzilla” movie opened.

“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (PG-13). When Mothra, Rodan and the three-headed King Ghidorah come together to pummel the planet, the crypto-zoological agency Monarch attempts to recruit Godzilla to take them down. This 35th film in the franchise is a direct sequel to the 2014 “Godzilla,” with Ken Watanabe and David Strathairn returning and lead roles going to Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Bradley Whitford, Charles Dance and Zhang Ziyi.

“Rocketman” (R). The life of singer-songwriter Elton John is chronicled from his early years as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music through his musical partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin and his struggles with depression, substance abuse and accepting his sexual orientation. Taron Egerton stars as John, with Jamie Bell as Taupin and Bryce Dallas Howard as John’s mother.

“Ma” (R). This horror yarn has lonely, middle-aged Ohio veterinary aid Sue Ann (Octavia Spencer) befriending a group of teens, buying liquor for them and bringing them to her home to party. But then she begins stalking the high schoolers, an obsession that eventually escalates to violence. With Juliette Lewis, Luke Evans, Missi Pyle and Allison Janney.

“The Poison Rose” (R). A down-and-out ex-football player-turned-private eye (John Travolta) is hired for a routine missing-person case, which, of course, turns out to be more convoluted. With Morgan Freeman, Brendan Fraser, Robert Patrick and Famke Janssen. (Exclusively at the Megaplex Gateway Cinemas.)

“Non-Fiction” (R, in French with English subtitles). When a book editor refuses to publish a first-time novel it sets off a chain of events that touches several members of the literary community in this French romantic comedy. Juliette Binoche is the best-known member of the ensemble cast. (Exclusively at the Broadway Centre Cinemas.)
