ANT-MAN’S SUMMER PICNIC
For Hicksflicks.com, Friday, July 6, 2018
This week’s summer blockbuster is the sequel to “Ant-Man,” although the latest in the “Purge” franchise is also expected to do well at the box office.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp” (PG-13). Paul Rudd returns in this comedy sequel as the petty criminal who was given a second chance by virtue of a superhero suit that allows him to make himself miniature-sized or a giant. Evangeline Lily is also back, this time teaming up with him as the Wasp. And Michael Douglas once again plays the scientist that makes it all possible. With Michael Pena, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Laurence Fishburne and Michelle Pfeiffer.
“The First Purge” (R). This fourth film in the “Purge” franchise is a prequel that shows how America in a dystopian future came to create a 12-hour period each year when all criminal activity, including murder, is legal, without fear of prosecution. This one actually opened on Wednesday, July 4 (insert your own political joke here).
“Whitney” (R). Documentary about singer-actress Whitney Houston, her music and her life, which was cut short when she drowned at age 48. The film promises previously unseen footage and new interviews with those in her circle.
“Boundaries” (R). When her pot-dealing elderly father (Christopher Plummer) is kicked out his Portland, Oregon, nursing home, a single mother (Vera Farmiga) is forced into a road trip with him and her 14-year-old son (Lewis MacDougall) to her sister’s home in Los Angeles. This comedy-drama co-stars Christopher Lloyd, Kristen Schaal, Bobby Cannavale and Peter Fonda. (Exclusively at the Broadway Centre Cinemas.)
